Mary Ann Mason, JD, PhD
Dr. Mason, former Dean of the Graduate Division, Professor and Co-Director of the Center for Health, Economic, & Family Security at the UCB School of Law, specializes in working families. In particular, she focuses on the surging numbers of professional women in law, medicine, science, and the academic world. During her time as Dean, she championed diversity in the graduate student population, promoted equity for student parents, and pioneered measures to enhance the career-life balance for all faculty. Her research findings and advocacy have been central to ground-breaking policy initiatives, including the ten-campus “UC Faculty Family Friendly Edge.” Her most recent books are: Mothers on the Fast Track: How A New Generation Can Balance Family and Careers (Oxford University Press,2007), and Do Babies Matter? Gender and Family in the Ivory Tower (Rutgers University Press, 2013).
